Virtual Mending Workshop

Have you been wanting to learn how to mend or embroider your own clothes but haven’t found a class that works with your schedule?
If you answered YES, then we’d like to invite you to join our Virtual Mending Workshop with guest teacher, Janell Wysock, of Janell Wysock Designs, on Wednesday, March 2nd from 6:30-8:00pm.
During this hands on workshop you will learn simple mending techniques for sweaters, tshirts, socks, sweatpants and more! You will also learn different decorative embroidery stitches that are sure to give your old clothes a fresh new look!
Attendees will be able to ask questions and receive help from industry professionals during break out groups.
Why mending?
Mending helps extend the life of your clothing and is a great way to contribute to sustainable fashion- the longer you keep a garment in your closet and out of the landfill the better!
What you’ll need:
- General mending supplies:
- -1 Sewing needle for thread and/or 1 darning needle for yarn
- -Yarn, thread and/or embroidery floss
- -Scissors
- Sweater & t-shirt mending supplies:
- -Embroidery hoop or pins and a surface you can pin into such as cardboard, foam core, soft wood or cork
- Sock mending supplies:
- -Darning egg (A lightbulb or cardboard can be used as a DIY darning egg)
About the Teaching Artist:
Janell Wysock is an fashion and textile artist and designer as well as a community leader and educator in the area of sustainability.
She revels in an array of materials, pairing high-end fine quality materials with items that are often considered to be trash and single use, such as plastic shopping bags, cassette tapes, and end-of-life textile waste.
Janell has a small production line of knitwear and wovens that are all hand loomed and made in her Frankford studio. She creates large scale tapestries for commission and public display along with in door and out door art installations.
